Communication And Cooperation

"Communication and cooperation between teams are key to achieving common goals and driving the advancement of synthetic biology."

  • -By sharing resources and strengths, we can mutually support and progress together.

-By exchanging ideas and collaborating with different teams, we can merge diverse perspectives and thought processes, thus generating more ideas and innovations.

-Therefore, in competitions, we highly value interacting and communicating with other teams.

Communication

"Various forums provide excellent platforms for project exhibitions and collaborative exchanges among teams."

Through these forums, we have collectively fostered a conducive environment for exploring synthetic biology and have reaped significant benefits from them.

Based in Shenzhen city, we gradually expanding our influence to the Greater Bay Area, the South China Region, and eventually covering the whole China. We have hosted, co-organized, and participated in more than seven organizations or conferences.

The Deep Blue Charity Bazaar is organized by the Southern University of Science and Technology and Shenzhen University. The event aims to raise funds for the "Sunshine Book Corner·Childhood Growth" project.

During this charity bazaar, a large team named "Deep Blue iGEM" was formed, consisting members from SUSTech_OCE, SZU-China, and BASIS China. We actively promote the concepts related to synthetic biology, explore the value and potential of synthetic biology in everyday life, and also raise public awareness of the iGEM project.

The Southern China Regional Meeting is a traditional events organized by us(SZU-China).

The theme of the 7th Southern China Regional Meeting this year is “Villagarnival” (villages-carnival). This meeting gathered a total of 16 teams from high schools and universities in the southern region of China, built a bridge for interaction, exhibition and communication among teams.

CCiC is an important platform for communication and collaboration among iGEM participants in China.

The four-day conference included an opening ceremony, academic lectures, team report presentations, workshops, team discussions, and a closing ceremony. The conference has invited heavyweight guests from academia, industry, and iGEM committee members to participate, bringing about a feast of synthetic biology.

The 1st iGEM Greater Bay Area Synthetic Biology Industry-Academia-Research Forum is a regional event initiated by the iGEM teams from Beijing Normal University (Zhuhai Campus), University of Macau, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and Shenzhen University.

It aims to facilitate communication and collaboration among related enterprises and teams in the region.

The 2023 iGEM Intercollegiate Synthetic Biology Science Popularization Conference is initiated by the BNUZH-China, in collaboration with the SZU-China and other 7 teams.

This is a conference with a focus on synthetic biology, in a hybrid format, combining both online and offline elements, breaking through spatial barriers and allowing more students to participate. It aims to further enhance the understanding of the charm of synthetic biology and ignite everyone's passion for science and desire for exploration.

iG 20+(iGEM Groups of 20+)is an organization initiated by Lanzhou University. Taking inspiration from the influential organization iG20, we hope to combine the power ofcollaboration to carry out more engaging educational activities.

Through iG20+, iGEM teams from different regions are united. We utilized online video recording and editing to popularize synthetic biology and team project to the public.

During our educational activities, we also took into consideration special groups, especially children with autism. We aim to ensure that these children have equal access to educational resources.

Therefore, we collaborated with several universities to create a picture book about synthetic biology called "Synbio-rainbow." We have submitted this picture book to institutions and centers for autistic children, to provide more educational opportunities and support for special-needs groups.

More details can be viewed in Collaboration.

Cooperation

"Competitions provide a competitive environment, but they also offer opportunities for mutual learning and growth."

Through conferences, we not only gain extensive knowledge about different teams, but also find like-minded teams to engage in deeper exchanges. By establishing deep connections with other teams, we can foster friendships, build cooperative relationships, and collectively face challenges and solve problems, thereby progressing together in the competition.

Firstly, collaborating and exchanging ideas with other teams enables us to gain a broader perspective and new ways of thinking. Each team possesses unique skills, knowledge, and experiences, and by sharing resources, we can expand our horizons and tap into creative thinking from different fields.

Secondly, collaboration facilitates resource sharing and complementarity. Different teams may have distinct technologies, equipment, expertise, and human resources. By working together, we can leverage each other's strengths and collectively solve challenges. Collaborating among teams also reduces individual burdens, enhances work efficiency, and ensures a smoother and more successful competition process.

Furthermore, collaborating with other teams fosters innovation and teamwork. Cooperation necessitates trust, shared responsibility, and mutual support, values that arebeneficial not only in competitions but also in future careers. Through teamwork, we can develop essential skills in problem-solving, decision-making, and work towards shared goals of synthetic biology.

In addition to forums, we have also established close connections with six teams, exchanging insights, sharing experiences, and helping each other throughout the project development process.

With CAU-China

During the early stages of the project, we conducted online brainstorming sessions with China Agricultural University. We shared our projects, asked questions, explored the possibilities, and provided suggestions of our projects to each other. This was meaningful for the smooth implementation of our projects.

With BNUZH-China

As the host of the 1st iGEM Greater Bay Area Synthetic Biology Industry-Academia-Research Forum, impressed by our successful experience and positive outcomes from hosting the South China exchange meeting, they invited us to collaborate on organizing the 1st iGEM Greater Bay Forum. By communication, we recognized the potential for breakthroughs and practical applications in synthetic biology.

With UM-Macau

Macau University and mainland Chinese schools have slight differences in education and management. Shenzhen University and Macau University face each other across the strait and are both located in the Greater Bay Area. So our two teams have established contact and exchanged experiences in team management and other aspects.

With ZJU-China

During several conferences such as the Southern China Regional Meeting, CCiC, and the 1st iGEM Greater Bay Area Synthetic Biology-Industry-Academia-Research Forum, we had several communications with ZJU-China, who also works on plant diseases. We exchanged inspiration and shared experiences in plant immunity, disease prevention and control, and treatment. After the conferences, we also established frequent communication to discuss team affairs and competition-related matters.

With SCAU-China

South China Agricultural University's project focuses on red fire ant control. Learned that our team has established close connections with the Shenzhen Agricultural Science and Technology Promotion Center, which has considerable experience in red fire ant control, they sent us several questions and we helped inquire about these questions to the experts at the center during the interview. Through resource sharing and collaboration, we have not only helped them solve problems but also gained insights into different agricultural issues and solutions.

With ZJUT-China

When we couldn't find a suitable vector for our project, Zhejiang University of Technology offered a helping hand and sent us plasmids that were suitable for our project. Throughout the process of project construction and implementation, we encountered various difficulties. However, the cooperation and collaboration among team members, beyond the competition, often lead to preasure story.
