Achievement

Peking University made its iGEM debut in 2007 and has since undertaken several innovative projects over the past 16 years. Between 2007 and 2023, iGEM served as an academic platform for Peking, paralleling the university's witness to iGEM's own evolution. This year, the Peking 2023 team returns to the in-person venue with their new project, 'Cancer Assassin'. We are confident that our comprehensive efforts will meet the criteria for the following medals. To clearly display our work, we make this page as the navigational assistance.

Gold Medal

Best New Basic Part

We successfully designed, constructed and characterized 14 hypoxia-lactate-induced hybrid promoters (BBa_K4713001—BBa_K4713014). Among them, we selected the promoter with the best performance (BBa_K4713008), which has great potential in tumour-targeting bacterial therapies. Compared to conventional AND-gate, a hybrid promoter requires no expression of assistant proteins, and therefore consumes less energy, which can enable the engineered strain to carry more modules in future studies. Best Model

To support our project, we developed models to estimate the performance of our conceptual modules. The main goal of the Hybrid Promoter Predicting Model is to filter out a promoter sequence with the best distinction under conditions with or without environmental oxygen and under different lactate concentrations. We also developed the MC Model to simulate bacterial distribution post-intravenous injection. After adjustment, these two models successfully work as the supporter of the wet lab. Please visit our Model Page in the Dry Lab section for further information.

Best Education

Leading a project centered around cancer, a life-threatening disease, necessitates profound discussions on life and death.. Observing the deficiency of life-and-death education in China, we launched a project to promote this type of education. In addition, we launched another program to popularize synthetic biology. Spanning 13 provinces, including Hong Kong and Macau, this initiative comprised both lectures and laboratory sessions. Please visit our Education Page in the HP and Education section for further information.
