Christina Tsianava

Christina Tsianava is a highly skilled individual with a strong passion for research and innovation. She has experience as a training officer and second-in-command in the Greek army, and is currently pursuing a degree in pharmacy at the University of Patras. Christina has also been an active board member in the Hellenic Pharmaceutical Students Association, where she gained experience in graphic design. She has been involved in entrepreneurial projects as a co-founder and also was a member of iGEM Patras 2022 team, serving as a social media and dry lab member. She is currently leading the iGEM Patras 2023 team as the project manager. Her involvement in iGEM Patras has been a rewarding experience, and she is excited to continue working with the team to contribute to their success in any way she can.

Maria Vasileiou is a 4th year pharmacy student at National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Her area of interest is cancer research, which includes primary & secondary prevention, chemoprevention and the association of dietary supplements and medicines with cancer incidence and progression. With her main focus being cancer research, she has participated in multiple non-governmental organizations, such as NCODA – National Community Oncology Dispensing Association, CPRGG – Cancer Prevention Research Group in Greece and IGRG – International Geriatric Radiotherapy Group. She serves as Co-Founder and President-Elect of NCODA Greece and Co-Head of Chemoprevention, Nutritional Supplements and Cancer at CPRGG. She has hands-on experience on cancer research, having attended a postgraduate program on immunotherapy in advanced/metastatic urothelial carcinoma. Her research activity includes 5 publications in International Journals with Impact Factor (MDPI, Current Medicinal Chemistry etc.)

Stavroula Siamoglou is a Pharmacist Ph.D. with more than 6 years research experience in the fields of Pharmacogenomics, Pharmacoepigenomics and Individualised Therapy. She is currently a post-doctoral researcher at the Laboratory of Pharmacogenomics and Individualized Therapy in the Department of Pharmacy at the University of Patras. Stavroula has reviewed high-impact scientific journals and has published twenty peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. Additionally, she has a keen interest in science communication, with BioSTEM being one of her primary interests. The goal of BioSTEM is to introduce students and teachers to the field of Pharmacogenomics and Individualized Therapy. Stavroula has also participated in iGEM Competitions as an Instructor (iGEM Patras 2020, iGEM Patras 2021, iGEM Patras 2022). She has received awards such as Fotis Kafatos Labbox second award in 2018 and the Greek Forbes List 30 under 30 in 2020. Moreover, she has been an invited speaker at conferences in Greece and abroad.

He has 3 years of experience as a research assistant at the Institute of Soil and Water Resources of Hellenic Agricultural Organization-Dimitra. His research activity includes participation in many research projects (more than 2 years), 8 publications in International Journals with Impact Factor and 5 publications in National and International Conference Proceedings. He was also a member of the iGEM Patras 2022 team, where he served as a dry lab member. He works as a research assistant at the Institute of Soil and Water Resources of Hellenic Agricultural Organization-Demeter, as a Scientific Assistant at the Research Project “Weedetective”, (Τ2ΕΔΚ-01678 MIS: 5550908) and as a Data Analyst in the research project LIFE GEOCARBON (LIFE20 PRE/EL/018).

In addition to her academic pursuits, she enjoys staying active and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Sevasteia Telli

Dr Angelo Ferraro

Dr. Angelo Ferraro in 2002 was awarded by the University of Calabria (Italy) with a degree in Biological Sciences. In 2010 he finished the PhD in Molecular Medicine at the University of Naples “Federico II” (Italy). His current position, as senior research fellow, is at the Department of Electronic Engineer, National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Greece, His main fields of research are cancer molecular biology, biomaterials and biotechnologies connected with use nanomaterials. Specifically, in the field of cancer molecular biology his studies focus on mutational analysis of oncogenes, deregulation of MAPK pathway and epigenetic factors such as histone modifier enzymes in thyroid, breast and colon cancers. In the last years he is investigating the use of magnetic and non-magnetic nanoparticles as tools against cancer diseases and for biotechnological applications. At NTUA laboratories he is investigating new approaches to enhance the effectiveness of hyperthermia (over-hyperthermia); the possibility to use rare-hearth fluoride-based nanoparticles and photodynamic therapy (PDT) to specifically kill cancer cells; developing biosensors based on affinity ligands and interdigitated capacitors. Concerning the biotechnological use of nanomaterials, his studies are focused on magnetic nanoparticles and magnetic photobioreactors to cultivate and harvest microalgae biomass. Furthermore, he is developing a technology named Selective Magnetic Separation based on the use of affinity ligands and magnetic beads to isolate from complex mixture organic molecules an inorganic and ions. Until now he published 70+ peer-reviewed papers (citations> 4400, h-index=30). He is serving as guest editor for the peer-reviewed journals Nanomaterials and Cancers (MDPI).

Sotiris Marinos

Sotiris was initially involved in iGEM competition in 2021 as the Head of Wet Lab for iGEM Crete, developing an edible vaccine against SARS-CoV-2. In 2022 he took part in iGEM Crete as Team Leader and competed in the competition with the project A.T.R.O.P.A., a live cell diagnostic tool for TSWV diagnosis. During his thesis, he was involved with host - microbe interaction and in particular with the recognition of Type III effector RipE1 of R. solanacearum by the plant - model N. benthamiana. Currently he is a member of the Biology of Stress and Aging Laboratory in University of Crete, under the supervision of Prof. Bazopoulou Daphne. Also he was involved in 2021 30-under-30 List of Forbes Greece.

George P. Patrinos is Professor of Pharmacogenomics and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology in the University of Patras (Greece), Department of Pharmacy and holds adjunct Professorships at Erasmus MC, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Pathology – Clinical Bioinformatics Unit in Rotterdam (the Netherlands) and the United Arab Emirates University, College of Medicine, Department of Genetics and Genomics, Al-Ain (UAE). Also, he served for 12 years as Full Member and Greece’s National representative in the CHMP Pharmacogenomics Working Party of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and serves as Co-Chair of the Global Genomic Medicine Collaborative (G2MC) since 2018. George is currently Head of Division of Pharmacology and Biosciences and Director of the Laboratory of Pharmacogenomics and Individualized Medicine, the first officially established academic laboratory on pharmacogenomics in Greece. His group is active in disciplines spanning from wet and dry lab and public health genomics projects, all focusing on pharmacogenomics and personalized medicine. In particular, his research interests involve discovery work and clinical implementation of pharmacogenomics, focusing in particular in psychiatry but also cardiology and oncology, genomics of rare disorders and transcriptional regulation of human fetal globin genes. Moreover, George’s group is internationally recognized for its involvement in developing National/Ethnic Genetic databases to document the genetic heterogeneity in different populations worldwide and of genome informatics tools to translate genomic information into a clinically meaningful format. Also, George’s group has a keen interest in public health genomics to critically assess the impact of genomics to society and public health. George has more than 300 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals, some of them in leading scientific journals, such as The Lancet, Nature Genetics, Nature Rev Genet, Nucleic Acids Res, Genes Dev. Also, he has co-authored and co-edited more than 15 textbooks, among which the renowned textbook “Molecular Diagnostics”, published by Academic Press, now in its 3rd edition, while he is the editor of “Translational and Applied Genomics” book series. Journal (TPJ), published by Nature Publishing Group, Associate Editor and member of the editorial board of several scientific journals, such as Human Mutation, Human Genetics, Human Genomics, Pharmacogenomics, etc and has been a member of several international boards and advisory and evaluation committees. Apart from that, George is the main co-organizer of the Golden Helix Conferences, an international meeting series on Pharmacogenomics and Genomic Medicine, with more than 50 conferences been organized in 25 countries worldwide since 2008.
