Collaborations

Introduction

This year, we accomplished great things that wouldn't be possible without the support of our community, fellow students, friends, and professionals. Here, we want to mention all the organizations and iGEM teams that we collaborated on to develop our project, popularize science, organize events, and many more.

iGEM teams

Together with these teams, we fostered the popularization of science, raised awareness about wildlife, and celebrated the worldwide Day of Health!

Patras Medicine iGEM Team

We had a chance to collaborate with Patras Med on celebrating World Health Day, which is also an anniversary of the founding of the World Health Organization (WHO). We delivered our message about health through a poster, which the Patras Medicine iGEM Team assigned to each collaborated team. UniCRETE iGEM Team

Additionally, with the UniCRETE iGEM Team, we celebrated World Biodiversity Day. For this special occasion, we presented one of the most iconic animals of Kazakhstan - the saiga antelope.

Summer Camp

This year, we organized the third annual Summer camp for high school students, and this time, we decided to give opportunities to more students all over Kazakhstan. With the help of numerous iGEM teams and local organizations, the camp has become more enlightening and informative for students.

TU Eindhoven

During our Summer camp for high school students all over Kazakhstan, we reached out to the Eindhoven iGEM Team and asked them to give guest lectures and special assignments for students. Due to the difference in time zones, they recorded a 10-15 minute video lecture about cancer treatment with hydrocells. Later on, after finding a suitable time for each team, they gave an online Q&A session for students, where they talked about their lecture and assignment that the Eindhoven Team gave. It was a remarkable experience working with such an excellent and knowledgeable team!

MIT iGEM Team

Summer camp is only so fulfilling with the support of the MIT iGEM team. They assisted in the organization and scheduling of events on Summer Camp's online platform. Students were enlightened about guest lectures and Q&A sessions of the iGEM from such a famous university!

DC FabLab

At our Summer Camp, NURIS DC FABLAB organized tours in their high-tech laboratories for our high school students, where they taught students how to use 3D modeling equipment and other tools. They showed the software designed for model creation and printing, which everyone in need can use and implement in their projects.

NURIS DC Lab

NURIS DC Lab is the ArtHub for all content-makers professionals in Astana. They made a lab tour for high school students at our Summer camp. At the time, they showed students how to use professional digital equipment with their powerful PCs and software designed for photo and video editing. This lab tour inspired many students to become engineers or 3D designers and showed them the power of modern technologies.

American Chemical Society, NU International Student Chapter

Throughout our journey, ACS supported us and assisted in summer camp organization. They also conducted a guest lecture on the topic of Bacteriotherapy and Hydrogel with an interactive presentation and an engaging approach.

NU CAC and NU Office of Enrollment

The cooperative work of the Career and Advising Center and Enrollment Office of Nazarbayev University gave a fantastic opportunity for students to get to know more about choosing their career path and applying to Nazarbayev University. Students were handed out multiple brochures and leaflets with helpful information and tips on how to select their major.

Internal events

Nazarbayev University administration always supports its students' initiatives and assists in the organization of various events. Here, we have more than 100 different student clubs that are engaged in multiple activities, and some of them helped us to spread cancer awareness, organize public events, and other aspects of our project.

NU TEDx "Human Factor" Talks

NU TEDx organized the event, where different speakers presented topics regarding the human factor in every sphere of life. Our team leader, Anel Umirbaeva, performed on a stage with the theme - "Rewiring Cancer: How Bacteria Will Revolutionize Cancer Treatment", where she presented a novel technique for treating cancer based on our project.

Braille workshop with Dara Foundation

One of the events held by our social project, Remisee, was a Braille writing workshop in association with the Dara Foundation. Their experts in inclusive education participated in the event and immensely helped in its organization and promotion.

Blood donation day

We organized Blood Donation Day for Cancer patients in collaboration with the NU Red Crescent Society. They have shared a lot with their expertise in conducting such donation events and created brochures with information for donors. Together, we achieved excellent results and collected about 20 liters of blood on International Blood Cancer Awareness Month.

BioArt exhibition

This year, we are organizing a second charitable and inclusive BioArt exhibition fully adapted for visually impaired people on the topic of cancer treatment. We collaborated with the NU Fashion Magazine Club, which is creating costumes made of biomaterials and recycled fabric for our exhibition's closing ceremony, where we will be holding a fashion show.

Furthermore, during the exhibition, we are planning to open a fundraising company together with the NU Red Crescent Society for Darina Saurova. Darina is a 6-year-old girl who has acute lymphoblastic leukemia. This event will help Daring get one step closer to remission and a healthy life. Please read more about the donation here. Genomix school lab tour

In June of this year, we had a chance to collaborate with Genomix School in their summer science camp. We were happy to present our university laboratory and hold a small lecture on the importance of lab safety and responsibility. The tour was conducted only after official approval from the university administration, and all of the safety measures were taken accordingly.
