PI

Xin Hu

Ph.D, Professor

I am a research faculty in the China-Japan Union Hospital of Jilin University. My main research interests include epigenetics and cancer biology. This year, I am the primary PI of the iGEM team from China-Japan Union Hospital of Jilin University. This is the first time that this team has participated in the iGEM competition. I would like to lead the students in the team to see a broader world outside the campus, and work together with them to make the world a better place. I am very happy to see them growing and constantly improving.

Youzhong Wan

Ph.D, Professor

I am the secondary PI of our iGEM team. I lead a research group at the Cancer Biology Laboratory of the China-Japan Union Hospital of Jilin University. I have a profound interest in cancer biology, and in particular the molecular mechanisms of abnormal RNA splicing in tumor cells. To help students use their own creativity to implement their project is the biggest charm of iGEM to me, and I indeed enjoy working with students and seeing their growth.

Instructor&Mentor

Yutong Yao

Instructor

I am interested in synthetic biology and molecular biology. I enjoy the unique research experience that iGEM brings to me, as well as the extensive exposure to different things, which are not limited to experimental techniques, but can also meet people from various background and promote synthetic biology education at the societal level.

Dawei You

Mentor

I am a PhD student of Peking University, majoring in Environmental Engineering. I have a strong interest in carbon capture and efficient utilization, and my doctoral project also focused on this aspect. Due to my previous solid work foundation in the modification of microbial chassis such as Escherichia coli, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, cyanobacteria, and Vibrio natriegens, I believe that I can contribute to carbon neutrality in the future. I am looking forward to being part of the world-changing journey of synthetic biology.

Leader&Advisor

Zhihui Chen

Student Leader

Hey, I'm Zhihui Chen, also named Zachary Chen, a doctor-to-be who is interested in oncology studies, and want to use the knowledge of synthetic biology to make a breakthrough in medical development. Sometimes I may act like a robot. As Derek Sivers said, “Only dead fish goes with the flow,” I always plan my day and strictly stick to the schedule. I can’t wait to showcase my creativity and innovation to you on the iGEM stage!

Yuxin Zhou

Advisor

I'm Yuxin Zhou, a senior student majors in bionic science and engineering. I believe that if there’s any kind of magic in this world, it must be in the attempt of sharing something. Who cares about the accuracy of the answer? Just swing from the heels and cherish every moment here.

Student Members

Meng Yuan

Meng Yuan, a student majors in Clinical Medicine at Norman Bethune Second College of Clinical Medicine is currently in the Human Practice group of our team. I am responsible for organizing group activities and contacting other schools for collaborations. I can describe myself in few words: calm, rigorous, optimistic, sometimes lively and approachable to others. I usually enjoy reading books and watching movies.

Luohan Ge

Hi, this is Luohan Ge. I am enthusiastic about exploring the unknowns in life. I am a keen reader, and writing is my strength. Reading is the improvement of theoretical knowledge, whereas writing is the practice of ideological content. Equipped with high executive and operative ability, I always push myself to go for extra miles. It is believed that real knowledge comes from practice. While enjoying the iGEM competition, I want to gain knowledge and horn my skills in other areas.

He Sun

I am He Sun, an atypical medical student who likes painting, listening to music and taking photos. My MBTI is a butterfly (i.e. INFP) which wanders between romanticism and realism. I can be stubborn, buddha-like, emotional or rational. I always change. But one things that does not change is my passion for lives. My dream is to open a mobile dessert shop, that I can travel around the world while operating my shop.

Zhongyu Chen

I am Zhongyu Chen, a medical student with MBTI being INTJ-A. Proficient in experimental procedures, I have actively made contribution to planning and implementation of various projects with an unwavering passion for exploring unknowns, reading articles and contemplating the mysteries of biology. From a feminist perspective, I am deeply moved by a statement from Virginia Woolf, that is “As a woman, I have no country.” My profound interest in sociology and scientific researches has bestowed upon me a keen sense of awareness about women’s health. This conviction propels me to participate in this competition with a hope to provide greater support for women.

Saiyu Luo

I'm Saiyu Luo, an undergraduate student majors in Clinical Medicine. My hobbies are listening to music, keeping pets and doing experiments. I’m in the experiment group of our team. As breast cancer is particularly prevalent among women, I want to take action to curb this unhealthy trend. “Gems unwrought can do nothing useful,” is my motto.

Li Cho

Hello, I'm Li Cho from Hong Kong, China. The word “Li” in my Chinese name means jasmine flower. So, you can also call me Jasmine Cho:) Currently, I’m a year-one medical student at Jilin University. IGEM provides me with an excellent opportunity to meet people from all over the world and I can share the interesting synbio ideas with them!

Xinrui Wang

Hello, my name is Xinrui Wang. Although sometimes I may be socially anxious, my friends generally describe me as a social butterfly. I have a great passion for trying out flavorful food, which I want to have a taste of every delicious dishes in the world.
