Overview

We live in an era of constant change, and the development of science and technology, the formation of more new industries, have changed our traditional way of life. However, due to poor information, there are still many people can not understand the most advanced science and technology, such as straw feed as a kind of feed made from crop straw, it can replace the traditional corn, soybean meal and other feed, reduce the cost of breeding, but also can reduce the pollution to the environment. In our view, there are several benefits to sharing scientific results:

  • Promote the dissemination and sharing of knowledge. Scientific knowledge is the crystallization of human wisdom. By sharing science, more people can understand and master this knowledge, and promote the dissemination and sharing of knowledge.

  • Promote progress in scientific research. Sharing science can help scientists to better communicate and cooperate, jointly solve scientific problems, and promote the progress of scientific research.
  • To improve the public awareness and understanding of science. By sharing science, the public can better understand the principles and applications of science, and improve the public's cognition and understanding of science.
  • Promote social progress and development. The application of scientific knowledge can bring about social progress and development. By sharing science, more people can benefit from scientific knowledge and promote the progress and development of the society.
To this end, we have developed corresponding education programs for children, teenagers and the public to convey our passion for biology further and further. In this process, our experience has become richer!

Shennongjia rural support education

In July 2023, we started from Wuhan and traveled thousands of miles to the Dragon Dragon shelf, where we started a 21-day volunteer teaching activity focusing on popular science and biological knowledge. The late enlightenment of science education has always been a pain point in China's rural education. Our arrival is not only a simple popularization of basic knowledge and project publicity, but also like the spread of fire, burying the seeds of science " in the hearts of rural children. At the beginning of the course, we introduced the children about the concept and production method of straw feed in our project. Through pictures, videos and other ways to show the production realization process, so that the children more intuitive understanding of the production of straw feed. We also introduced the children to the advantages of this straw feed. From the environmental protection, economy, nutrition and other aspects, let the children understand that the use of straw feed can not only reduce the environmental pollution, but also can reduce the cost of breeding, improve the production efficiency of livestock. In addition, we have also produced a series of biological characteristic courses, such as fun experiments, animal and plant science, etc. Through the above courses and explanations, the children have a better understanding of our project subjects and advantages, and enhance their understanding and understanding of environmental protection and science. At the same time, it also stimulates their curiosity and desire to explore, and encourages them to actively participate in environmental protection actions and scientific inquiry activities. From the effect of the explanation, the children have a good acceptance of the way we introduced.

In addition, during this period, we personally experienced the difficulty of education in poor areas, so we held a charity fundraising activity under the background of biological science popularization. Through offline lectures, distribution of brochures, and setting up independent donation stalls, social donations are collected while popularizing biological knowledge.In order to repay every caring donor, we made a lovely cultural and creative key chain and distributed it to everyone. After the fundraising, we donated the money to the charitable foundation that set up the Project Hope project. Once this activity was launched, it was well received by college students and teachers. Everyone actively participated in it and had a deeper understanding of philanthropy and synthetic biology.

We hope to cultivate children's scientific literacy, stimulate their curiosity and the desire to explore, help them to better cope with the challenges of the future, contribute our strength to aid education and broaden the public awareness of our project.

Make biological science teaching plans

We have also written a number of popular science teaching plans for teenagers with certain biological knowledge reserves, respectively for the two major themes of plants and environmental protection. Popular science plants have many benefits for children's growth. First of all, plants are an important part of nature. The knowledge of the growth, reproduction and protection of plants can enhance teenagers' cognition and understanding of nature. Second, plant is an essential part of our life, understand the plant species, characteristics and use and the important role of plants in the ecosystem, such as oxygen supply, soil maintenance, water circulation, biodiversity maintenance knowledge, help to cultivate the public awareness of environmental awareness and ecological protection, promote people's attention to the ecological environment and protection, can help teenagers to make better use of plant resources. In addition, popular science plants can also stimulate their curiosity and desire to explore, and cultivate their scientific literacy and environmental awareness. Young people are the future of the country, and their environmental awareness and level of environmental knowledge will directly affect the environmental quality in the future. Through the science of environmental protection, can help young people establish scientific environmental concept, enhance environmental awareness, improve the level of environmental knowledge, so as to better protect our homes. Fully aware of the harm brought by the alien invasive species to the local ecosystem, improve the awareness of prevention, and strictly restrain the release behavior of themselves and the people around them. Because the teaching plan is object-oriented and has a certain understanding of biological knowledge, the knowledge will be relatively systematic and detailed, and the content is more cohesive.

In addition, we also made brochures and posters related to the project, on which we printed popular science words of biotechnology knowledge related to our project. We distributed our manuals to all participants in the offline events, showing our posters, hoping to disseminate advanced biological technology knowledge to the masses while promoting our team project. From the perspective of practical results, such design method is more likely to arouse the interest of teenagers. Most of the young people listened to our explanation carefully and maintained great enthusiasm for learning these knowledge.

Social Media Education

In addition to basic activities, we have regularly sent tweets on the wechat official account since the beginning of the competition, aiming to let more people understand basic biological knowledge and improve scientific literacy. So far, we have successfully published 22 high-quality popular science articles. Through text, video and other forms to display scientific knowledge, so that people more intuitive understanding of scientific knowledge. At the same time, the WeChat official account can also interact with readers, answer readers 'questions, and enhance readers' sense of participation and interest. Of course, in order to make good use of the wechat public number for popular science, we need to pay attention to the following points.
  1. Determine the audience group and the communication content. Different audiences need basic biological knowledge, so the communication content needs to be determined according to the characteristics of the audience.
  2. Ensure the accuracy and scientificity of the content. Basic biological knowledge is very important, so it is necessary to ensure the accuracy and scientificity of the content when popularizing science.
  3. Use multiple forms for transmission. In addition to text, it can also be spread through pictures, videos and other forms, making the audience more vivid and interesting.

  • Convenient and fast: users can acquire scientific knowledge anytime and anywhere through mobile devices and other mobile phones.

Through continuous adjustment, we constantly adjusted the practice plan according to the age and personality characteristics of the audience, encouraged discussion and learned from each other, and finally achieved commendable results. Each generation has its own mission and responsibility, but our youth include but not limited to: promoting scientific and technological innovation, paying attention to environmental protection, being responsible for the future of mankind; actively participate in social public welfare undertakings, and contribute to social harmony and stability. The importance of biological science education lies in that it can help people better understand the nature of life, so as to better protect and utilize natural resources, and solve many field related problems such as population growth, resource crisis, ecological environment deterioration, and biodiversity.
