ICII - into China into iGEM, is an event sponsored and organized by the participants from China since 2021.
This year's ICII was initiated by NAU-CHINA, who built an online synthetic biology education information platform.
Contents on the platform consist of two main parts.
Firstly, project introductions of different teams are posted. Teams that have already uploaded include NAU-CHINA and LZU-CHINA.
Secondly, in addition to an archive of instructional materials, ICII also provides a description of all the guiding methodologies used in this year's all-age education program. One goal of this initiative is to ensure the repeatability and reference of the educational success of this year. Future visitors can draw inspiration and insight from reading the educational materials we have saved, and avoid having to start from scratch when creating educational projects. On the other hand, it offers reference materials suitable for different ages for people who want to teach themselves synthetic biology by posting webpages to Baidu Tieba, Bilibili, and other platforms.
During this year's NIA activities, we first discussed the idea of continuing ICII activities this year with other teams in Nanjing. Luckly, the idea was unanimously affirmed and supported by everyone. The NJMU-CHINA team and the CPU-CHINA team provided us with valuable suggestions during the brainstorming process for ICII activity forms. Finally, we decided to build an open synthetic biology education information platform and upload educational e-newsletters related to synthetic biology or iGEM projects to realize this year's ICII project.
The construction of the popular science platform was contracted by two wikis from NAU-CHINA, the design and layout of the web page were undertaken by two artists from NAU-CHINA, and the filling of the web content was provided by two HPs from NAU-CHINA. Finally, we built the ICII platform today: http://www.icii.store/
This website consists of a home page, a submission page, and a newsletter download page. On the home page, the basic information of the e-newsletters have been published. QR code of the questionnaire for each group is displayed on both sides of the home page for everyone to scan.
Our submission email address is listed on the submission page, icii_igem@163.com. There is no threshold for soliciting contributions. Interested teams and individuals only need to send their own submitted text and pictures to the email. After receiving the emails, two HPs of NAU-CHINA reviewed and typeset them, and finally uploaded them to the website.
The newsletter download page displays each issue of the newsletter that we have uploaded, which can be previewed online or downloaded directly as a pdf file.
In addition, in order to enable more people to benefit from the website, we have developed two reading modes for both Chinese and English for readers to choose freely.
The first ICII issue is the project introduction of NAU-CHINA “BISTRO”. We use four pages to show the project background, technical function, concept of educational activities, and an introduction to iGEM.
The second issue of ICII is the project introduction of LZU-CHINA. We present LZU-CHINA's project background, technical function, art design, and an introduction to the iGEM competition.
The third issue of ICII is the project introduction of SDU-CHINA. We present SDU-CHINA's project background, experiment technologies, art design, and the introduction of iGEM.
The forth issue of ICII is the project introduction of BIT-CHINA. We present BIT-CHINA's project background, technology challenges, value evaluation, and the introduction of iGEM.
In the outreach of our educational activities, the e-newsletter produced from ICII has become our most convenient tool for popular science. Whether volunteering in Nanjing Science and Technology Museum or conducting random interviews and surveys in the street, the circulation and distribution of ICII's newspaper provided an efficient guarantee for the implementation of our educational goal of “promoting the concept of synthetic biology and raising awareness of food safety”.
