Hello! My name is Scott, by day I'm a 4th year astrophysics student, and by night I'm also a 4th year astrophysics student (but at night).
My main contributions to the team are unrelenting optimism and writing on whiteboards.

Hi, I'm Bella and I'm a 3rd year Physics student who especially loves biophysics.
A fun fact about me is that I can make at least 2 types of origami dragon from memory!

Hi, I'm Lucy, I'm a second year Medical Sciences student with particular interests in neuroscience and embryology.
Alongside iGEM, I'm an active committee member of the Debating Society and the Toucan Appreciation Society!

Emily Nurden

Image

Hi, I'm Emily a third year Natural Sciences student. In true Nat Sci fashion I have too many interests across different areas of science and find it very exciting when they start linking up!

Ilma

BSc Natural Sciences

Ilma

Image

Hi, I'm Ilma, a third year Natural Sciences student with a curiosity for all things science in this world, particularly the fast-developing field of genetics! Outside of iGEM, I enjoy experimenting with art, and you can probably find me in a cafe or petting a random cat.

Abigail Copping

BSc Biological Sciences

Abigail Copping

Image

Hello, I'm Abigail, a second year BSc Biological Sciences student with an interest in neuroscience and genetics.
A fun fact about me is that I worked in a CL3 COVID-19 and TB laboratory in the NHS when I was 18.
Outside of iGEM, you will either find me at the gym or on the floor- there's no inbetween.

Hallo! I’m Theo, a second year Biological Sciences student. My interests lie within the realm of Molecular Biology, specifically Biochemistry and Genetics.
I personally believe that CRISPR will save us all, and solve all our future agricultural and medical problems (trust me on this guys). Outside of iGEM, I aspire to be Ryan Gosling and will (hopefully if I pass) drive just like him.

Becky Davies

GIF

Hi I'm Becky, a fourth year Natural Sciences student. I have a particular passion for microbiology and bioimaging, and am currently doing my Master's project on studying Archaea using cryoEM. A fun fact about me is that I enjoy marine cliff climbing!

Daisy Brooke

MSci Biological Sciences

Daisy Brooke

GIF

Hi I'm Daisy, a third year MSci Biological Sciences student with a particular interest in molecular biology and genetics - especially CRISPR-Cas!
Outside of science I spend a bit too much time running around in circles or with my head stuck in a book.

Nikki Evans

BSc Medical Sciences

Nikki Evans

Image

Heya! I'm Nikki, a third year Medical Sciences student currently on a placement year. I have particular interests in neuroscience and neurodegeneration but oustide the lab I love to watch movies and read books! Being on this year's iGEM team has been a great experience and I've made awesome friends along the way.

Hi, my name is James, a 3rd year student studying biochemistry with interests in neuroscience and organic chemistry. My main contribution to iGEM has been annoying everyone by learning to whistle, complaining in the lab, and buying A LOT of coffee. Outside of iGEM, I enjoy going to the gym and playing football!

Meet our supervisors!

Image of Dr Chloe Singleton

Dr Chloe Singleton

Lecturer in Biochemistry

Dr Chloe Singleton

I am a lecturer in Biochemistry and although I am a biochemist by training, in recent years I have become interested in synthetic biology, particularly due to my supervision of the Exeter iGEM teams. My research is therefore focused on the manipulation of microorganisms to enhance and exploit their natural processes for environmental and technological benefit. I design and build molecular toolkits for metabolic engineering of industrially relevant chassis. These toolkits are modular allowing for rapid changes to meet the changing needs of industry.

Dr Mark Hewlett

Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Dr Mark Hewlett

I am a research fellow working in the Exeter Microbial Biofuels Group. My PhD was in evolutionary microbiology but I have become very interested in synthetic biology as a process to apply scientific breakthroughs to real world problems. I am particularly interested in cell free protein synthesis.

Professor John Love

Professor of Synthetic Biology

Professor John Love

I lead the Exeter Microbial Biofuels Groups, where industrial engagement and knowledge transfer is a leitmotif of our research. We have close partnerships with several businesses, from local SME’s to multinational companies. I won the Exeter Impact Award for Outstanding Impact in Technology and was a finalist in the 2014 BBSRC Innovator of the Year Award for the production of retail-grade diesel in bacteria.

Image of Dr Jamie Harrison

Dr Jamie Harrison

Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Dr Jamie Harrison

I am research fellow working in the Exeter Medical Mycology group. The bulk of my work is in bioinformatics, although I do also like to get in to the lab when possible! Although my current focus is on medical mycology the principles of bioinformatics can be widely applied and I have published research on a very wide range of topics, organisms and sequencing technologies.

Keith Harrison

PhD student

Keith Harrison

I am mathematician and computer scientist by training, and I am currently studying for a PhD in the Monier group at Exeter. I am working on dissecting infected cells at very high resolution with single-cell RNA-seq and atomic force microscopy. Focusing on Algal culturing, ddPCR, DNA Sequencing, and HiC + RNA data analysis. I am not related to Jamie!

Our initial idea generation!
We decided pretty quickly that Scott looked a lot like the iGEM logo.
Our first ever miniprep! (Plus a rare sighting of Theo W in the lab!)
Vibing outside our lab.
Abigail and Daisy showing off their fabulous matching DNA earrings.
Abigail and Becky presenting an idea for a detection method for Chagas disease in Week 2.
