About iGEM

The iGEM Competition is an annual, worldwide synthetic biology event aimed at undergraduate university students, as well as high school and graduate students. The iGEM Competition gives students the opportunity to push the boundaries of synthetic biology by tackling everyday issues facing the world. Multidisciplinary teams work together to design, build, test, and measure a system of their own design using interchangeable biological parts and standard molecular biology techniques. iGEM teams work inside and outside the lab, creating sophisticated projects that strive to create a positive contribution to their communities and the world. iGEMers are building a better world by solving problems with the help of synthetic biology. This year, we expect over 7,000 people to dedicate months of their time and energy to their iGEM projects and then come together to present their work and compete at the Grand Jamboree. iGEM Deadlines

There's a hundred and four days of summer vacation And iGEM comes along just to end the frustration So the question for all of you geniuses out there Is how to engineer something that's super rare Engineering, science, and a hint of pizzazz With Lactiplantibacillus plantarum we're on the right path Creating RIP, the biofilm's biggest foe For catheter coating, let the experiments go! Our project begins with a brilliant idea To fight off S. epidermidis, it's crystal clear Using good ol' bacteria with a twist of design To release a protein that'll make biofilms decline Engineering, science, and a hint of pizzazz With Lactiplantibacillus plantarum we're on the right path Creating RIP, the biofilm's biggest foe For catheter coating, let the experiments go! Building lab equipment and coding with precision Gathering data, never losing our ambition We're a team of bright minds, ready to take flight From DNA synthesis to getting the results right Every day, a new challenge, but we won't back down Working round the clock, we wear the lab coat crown From troubleshooting hurdles to running tests galore We're closer than ever to knocking biofilms out the door Engineering, science, and a hint of pizzazz With Lactiplantibacillus plantarum we're on the right path Creating RIP, the biofilm's biggest foe For catheter coating, let the experiments go! So now you know the story, our iGEM adventure We engineered bacteria, no one can censure With a coating for catheters, we'll make a difference Thanks to Phineas and Ferb's inspiration and brilliance!
