Born out of the Synthetic Biology Club EEL/USP
and driven by an enormous interest in applying our knowledge to
projects that add to science and society, we, team USP-EEL-Brazil,
are enthusiastically representing the Lorena School of Engineering
at the University of São Paulo (USP-EEL) for the fifth time in iGEM editions.
In the past editions, our team presented projects that sought innovative solutions to everyday problems using synthetic biology.
Our iGEM journey began in 2016, when we took part in the competition for the first time with the Ecoil project,
which aimed to explore alternative sources for renewable fuels by identifying effective oils for biodiesel production.
In 2018, we took part in the competition again with the Lacquase project,
in which we developed methods to remove estrogens from water in order to reduce
the amount of these toxic compounds in the sea, which affect marine fauna.
In 2021 and 2022, we returned with the Honorato project which sought to develop synthetic
inhibitors for snake venom, proposing an alternative approach to antivenom. In 2023,
through a lot of research and brainstorming, we pursued a new project, CBDynamics, to
develop a technology for the production of cannabidiol by synthetic biology.
