SyMB-Lab

The SyMB-Lab, short for “Laboratory of Synthetic and Molecular Biology”, stands as a prominent institution within the Biotechnology Center of the Lorena School of Engineering, at the University of São Paulo. Established in 2014, SyMB-Lab delves into innovative works with two branches of Biology: Synthetic Biology and Molecular Biology. These two areas, although different, have many similarities with each other and involve topics such as Genetic Engineering, Computational Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biomedicine, and many others. Catering to both laboratory research and industrial applications, all of them being research focuses of the laboratory in question. At the helm of the SyMB-Lab is Dr. Fernando Segato, our esteemed former Principal Investigator and valuable collaborator. His leadership will facilitate the execution of forthcoming experiments within the CBDynamics project at the Laboratory of Synthetic and Molecular Biology.

PRG, PRCEU and PRPG

The Pro-Rectory of Graduation (PRG) and the Pro-Rectory of Post-Graduation (PRPG) are pivotal entities within the University of São Paulo, with their primary missions being the conceptualization, strategizing, oversight, and assessment of undergraduate and post-graduate programs, while upholding stringent standards of quality and fostering international recognition (Falciano, 2022). The Pro-Rectory of Culture and University Extension (PRCEU) is an entity that develops the University of São Paulo's cultural and extension policies, acting as an open channel for USP's dialogue with society, FUNDING programs to promote academic initiatives and scientific dissemination within society. PRCEU, PRG and PRPG played an indispensable role in providing financial support to our team. Without their invaluable assistance, we would have faced significant challenges in covering the majority of our iGEM and Jamboree registration fees, making our participation in the iGEM 2023 extremely difficult.

SynBioBR

The Brazilian Association Of Synthetic Biology is a community made to connect and empower the new generation of bioengineers in Brazil. An institution focused on instructing and connecting researchers and those interested in the field of synthetic biology. Through the organization, we had access to market studies, presentation models for our project, contact with private laboratories and possible investors for the next stages of our work. The Association has its own segment to assist Brazilian iGEM teams and has been a great ally through this journey.

DEBIQ - Biotechnology Department

The Biotechnology Department has 21 professors coordinating interdisciplinary research in various areas of biotechnology. The researchers include a variety of topics with a strong emphasis on processes that culminate in new technologies for converting plant biomass, being, if not the most notorious, one of the most important departments at the Lorena engineering school. DEBIQ provided the financial support that guaranteed our representatives' arrival and stay in Paris for this year's competition.

USP - Lorena School of Engineering

Our esteemed university has played a pivotal role in this journey, and today it is recognized as the best university in Latin America, mainly because it values the development of research and scientific innovation. We greatly appreciate the investment and trust in our group. The regional engineering campus provided us with the knowledge and hunger to embark on this challenge. The financial and structural support of these institutions has enabled us to submit the project for evaluation this year.
