Overview

We are a group of people who love synthetic biology and iGEM. We hope to build a mass base for the development of synthetic biology. Although it is our first year to participate, we have tried our best to carry out different forms of education for middle school students and college students of different ages. The goal is to let different basic groups understand the meaning of iGEM and synthetic biology and its applications in medicine, agriculture, materials, environment and energy through explanation and education. Spark their interest in synthetic biology in their lives. Additionally, we communicated with other teams from around the world about our project to see if there was any room for improvement.

High school education

Cas9 techniques introduce in Dalian No.2 Middle School

Dalian No.2 Middle School was built in 1950. It has always maintained the spirit of "lofty ambition and unremitting self-improvement", and has developed into a model ordinary high school in Liaoning Province, with distinctive educational characteristics, and has become a banner of education development. On August 8,2023, Bai Jiarui contacted the teachers of Dalian No.2 Middle School. Due to the space limitation, we could not give on-site lectures, so we had to give online lectures to the students of Dalian No.2 Middle School. The high school teachers also welcomed us very much.

First, the SYPHU-iGEM team presented the overview and project of their team. The SYPHU-iGEM team then introduced synthetic biology, the iGEM format, and our this year's competition and "HER2 Positive tumor stalker" (including inspiration, experimentation, modeling, and human practice). Finally, I answered some questions for the students who attended the lecture.

We made this speech very meaningful. First of all, we also learned a lot about experiments and human practice, and actively encouraged the development and completion of our project. Then, for the audience, most of them had not been exposed to synthetic biology, and through our presentation, they learned some synthetic biology research ideas and IGEM. Encouraging more undergraduate and high school students to join synthetic biology is also one of the aims of this presentation.

Recruiting Propaganda for Freshmen

On October 2022, SYPHU-iGEM team members gave a lecture at the school on a comprehensive introduction of 2022 freshmen IGEM. He introduced the freshmen to the different rules of the iGEM gold and silver and bronze awards, the constituent sections and what each part needs to do, and what is the gold medal event in previous years. Prepare for a new team in IGEM 2023.

In December 2022, the SYPHU-iGEM team held a number of publicity lectures on synthetic biology in many venues of Shenyang Pharmaceutical University. We describe in detail the background about IGEM, synthetic biology, synthetic biology, which is building artificial biological systems that run them like circuits. We designed the sticky notes: the applied image is the iGEM logo. Hope to show unity, optimism and the current positive attitude of our team. What, we want to bring happiness: the emotional impact on the user.

We also designed a scratch-off game full of iGEM features, a simple and fun game where players can get different rewards and surprises by scraping off different patterns or symbols. IGEM features scratch-off music that not only increases the fun and interactivity, but also makes players feel the sense of participation and luck. It is a very popular game among young people.
