-Laboratory safety protocols-

-General-

-All personnel should wear lab coats. Meanwhile, wearing lab coats outside the laboratory or its corridor is also prohibited.

-While doing experiments, all participants should wear gloves.

-Food and drinks are to be kept outside the laboratory.

-There are two trash bins for regular trash and biohazard trash, respectively. Any trash that may be toxic or infectious, like gloves, chemicals, culture medium and so on, must be disposed in the biohazard bin.

-It is prohibited to pour chemicals that are confirmed toxic into the water sink. They must be discarded in the biohazard bin. Besides, it is not recommended to wash hands in the water sink. It is mainly used to wash the bottles and other objects, therefore may contain some slightly toxic substance.

-Pipette-

-While transferring liquids with pipettes, the pipette tip must not touch any surface.

-Before being used, the pipette tips should be sent for sanitization.

-the pipette tips must be disposed once the operator is finished transferring liquid or the kinds of liquid that needs to be transferred has changed.

-While containing liquids, it is prohibited to point the pipette upwards.

-Clean bench-

-Before working on the clean bench, the UV light must be activated for a period of time to sanitize the interior of the bench.

-Before working on the clean bench, the operator’s hands must be sprayed with alcohol. If the operator’s hands left the inside of the bench later, the alcohol spray must be used again when the operator’s hands re-enter the bench.

-While working on the clean bench, the fan inside the bench must be activated.

-Everything outside the clean bench and everything ever left the inside of the bench must be thoroughly sanitized before they can re-enter the bench.

-Electrophoresis tank-

-TAE buffer is needed while crafting the gel for electrophoresis. To avoid possible contamination, there is a measuring cylinder solely used to measure TAE buffer. It does not need to be washed, while it is also prohibited to measure anything else with it.

-The gel also contains nucleic acid dye, which is highly toxic. It is strictly prohibited to touch the gel without gloves or to touch skin with the contaminated gloves.

-Centrifugal machine-

-While working, the EP tubes sent to be processed must be distributed symmetrically inside the machine. This will prevent machine from being damaged.
