Implementation

The rise of multi-resistant bacteria was acknowledged by the World Health Organization as one of the ten biggest threats to public health worldwide. A major contributor to this threat is the excessive use of antibiotics in livestock farming and the improper prescription and usage in medicine. Our biosensor can be implemented in these areas as a quick and cheap test to see if wastewater that is produced is contaminated with antibiotics. If so, actions can be deployed by the people in charge to clean their wastewater and prevent the formation of multi-resistant bacteria. In doing so, they can take part in the solution to one of the world’s biggest healthcare threats.
