the marvelous genie of our iGEM team!
Hello, dear reader!
Today, I want to share our exciting iGEM project with you!
Our team is on a quest to create something magical: a bacterial collagen-like protein that mimics
mammalian collagen!
Collagen is like a secret ingredient in our bodies! It's in our skin, bones, and even in our eyes! It
makes up 30% of all proteins in our bodies.
Right now, we get collagen from animals,
but that can be tricky and not always safe.
Using animal collagen can lead to risks like diseases and ethical concerns.
But fear not!
Our team is using the power of Synthetic Biology to create an eco-friendly alternative.
Our team will use special bacteria to produce a collagen-like protein!
It's like a magical recipe!
We're giving the bacteria the 'codes' to make collagen-like protein.
This 'code' is called gene code expansion.
Once we're done, we'll have a new way to make collagen that's safe, cost-effective, and
scalable!
We aim to open up a world of possibilities for tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, and even
cosmetics and supplements!
By using this magical bacterial collagen, we can help people with bone and cartilage defects, create
bioengineered corneas, manufacture halal/vegan cosmetics, and much more!
