1.2023 Northwestern China iGEM Meetup

On August 8, our team, as the organizer, hosted the fifth Northwest China Exchange Conference. A total of seven teams participated in the conference, including AFMU-China, CSU-CHINA, LZU-CHINA, NPU-CHINA, UM-Macau, XJU-China and our team.

The meeting adopted the form of online and offline combination, from the project background, experimental design, modeling, HP, future plan and other aspects of the project to show the project, and put forward the advantages, disadvantages and doubts of the team project. During the Q&A session, people actively ask questions about other teams' projects and make suggestions for improvements.You can read more in the PDF below.

2.CCiC Meeting

The 10th Conference of China iGEMer Community (CCiC) was successfully held in Haikou, Hainan Province from July 8 to 10, 2023, and is the largest regional iGEMer conference in the world. We attended the CCiC conference online.

The theme of the conference is "Discuss New standards"

At the meeting, iGEM teams from all over China gathered to exchange project design and progress, and guests and judges put forward questions and suggestions for each team. We clash ideas, promote mutual learning and exchange, providing many novel ideas for the design of our experiments and the development of HP activities.

3.Synthetic "S" Plan roadshow presentation

On April 13, the synthetic "S" Plan roadshow presentation at Northwest University Station was successfully held. Yi Xiao, a researcher at the Institute of Synthetic Biology, Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, was invited to our school to give a lecture in our school.

After a short break, the guest teachers, our teachers and the iGEM team had a discussion on the theme of "How to promote talent cultivation and field crossover in synthetic biology".

Round table Forum

In this activity, Mr. Yi showed us the huge development potential, vitality and innovation of synthetic biology, the teacher's professional explanation and patient answer let us gain a lot. We are very grateful for Mr. Yi's arrival and look forward to more exchanges and cooperation between the two sides in the future.

4.Nanjing Joint Meeting

We attended the joint meeting of the iGEM team in Nanjing.The meeting invited Mr. Yu Han Bao, an expert from the Bioscience Ethics Committee of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (Green BASE), iGEM Liaison Officer and HP Project Coordinator, to give a lecture on the development of HP.

Finally, Mr. Bao evaluated the progress and quality of the HP of the two teams.

Then, Mr. Bao put forward specific questions according to the three principles of HP to guide the team to do a good job in HP:

1.Reflection: Examine the motivation of your actions, clarify the purpose of HP activities, exchanges and visits before holding them:whether they are helpful to HP, and make trade-offs and compromises based on feedback.

2.Responsibility: Think about the advantages and disadvantages that the team's project can bring to the world, what the consequences will be if the technology used in the project is misused, and how we can prevent abuse.

3.Responsiveness: What has been learned from the parties involved in the communication, what improvements have been made based on the feedback, and where the boundaries of the problem can be addressed by the project.

This meeting has pointed out the direction for the development of our HP, we have learned a lot from it and determined the follow-up projects:

1.Understand the motivation and reason of the activity when the project is carried out

2.Give feedback and learn the improvement of the project

3.Improve the social recognition of the product

4.Put expert interviews in the first place to identify the problems that will occur in the experiment and the direction of our improvement

5.Interview probiotic companies to understand the possibility of industrial production; Questions to be raised and directions to improve our experiments

6.Interviews with relevant stakeholders

5.The Second Interschool Exchange-HP Special Session

We participated in the second interschool exchange-HP Special Session, and shared the main points of HP development and HP web writing with the teams.

To communicate with different fields.

Communication received feedback needs to be highlighted.

Pay attention to social responsibility, care for vulnerable groups, and contribute to ethics, environment and science.

After this meeting, we gained a new understanding of HP's overall design ideas and the design of web pages, which we incorporated into the wiki we presented.

In the course of attending these meetings, we gained a lot of valuable experience and insights. These meetings and events provide us with the opportunity to interact and communicate with teams from different schools and districts, and through the presentation and sharing of others. We are able to listen to different suggestions and opinions, and explore solutions together to better advance our projects. This open exchange has greatly broadened our thinking and inspired more innovative ideas about human practice.

Secondly, these meetings and presentations also provide us with the opportunity to showcase and publicize our projects. By introducing our innovative ideas and results to professionals, professors, etc., we are not only able to attract more attention and support, but also to better evaluate our own practice results and find ways to improve.

Through learning, exchange and display, we will continue to strive to promote our projects and make greater contributions to human health and social well-being!
