In the realm of synthetic biology, microorganisms, much like diverse teams, adapt and thrive through symbiosis.
Co-culture cultivation in Living Modified Organisms (LMOs) has proven more efficient than monoculture.
Yet, LMO safety remains a paramount concern, underscoring the vital role of bio-safety measures.
Our project aims to create tailored biocontainment systems for co-culture conditions, unlocking the full potential of this innovative approach.
But most of the students had concerns about using them,
primarily regarding safety and ecological impact
we choosed AHL signal molecule and combind it with a toxin-antitoxin system as a suitable kill switch for biocontainment. The system's functionality depends on the concentration of AHL, where a low concentration increases the toxin levels and reduces the antitoxin levels.
