Mexico has a pressing issue of water pollution. Millions of people lack access to safe drinking water (Toche, 2023), despite being a human right.
Over 50% of our rivers, streams, lakes, lagoons, dams, and coastal areas are polluted, many of them containing emerging contaminants (RodrÃguez, 2022).
Current detection methods for these contaminants are very expensive and time-consuming, making them inaccessible for marginalized communities.
To tackle the challenge posed by water pollution and the detection of emerging contaminants, our team has designed an easy-to-use biosensor.
Our objective is to provide an inexpensive and portable solution capable of analyzing water samples to detect emerging contaminants. Our biosensor would make individuals, organizations, and companies assess the quality of their water sources and make informed decisions when it comes to consuming or making products with said water.
