HUBU-China

Let's present the organization of our team!

Wet Laboratory Team

Our wet laboratory team is divided into two small groups.

Isobutanol production group composed of Liyu Chen, Jinyu Wang,Jiaxin LiLe Chang, Yu Jia Liu, and Cong Ke.They conducted experiments on the construction of Zymomonas mobilis for the isobutanol production , and carried out fermentation tests. Finally increased the yield of isobutanol production.
The Carbon Fixation team composed of Sizhan Zhang,Na Ning, and Anxin Yan,they were responsible for the experimental work on carbon fixation. They recorded and organized fermentation data related to carbon fixation, and generated growth curves of bacterial strains, as well as metabolic charts.

Education team.

Our education team is led by Jiaqi Wang, Liyu Chen, Yongbo Chen, and Jingxian Zhu. We have gathered many volunteers from universities and society to accompany us to mountainous areas, ethnic minority gathering places, and impoverished regions to promote education and help children there overcome the current situation of educational inequality. We aim to break down the barriers to promoting biological sciences and STEM education among marginalized populations.
We express our gratitude to the volunteers who joined us on this journey: Qianyu Wen, Chuangyi Wei, Jiawei Jiang, Yan Zhou Meng Yuan, Yuqi Bao, Mengxue Yang, Xueyi Chen, Aobo Wu, Jiaoyang, Yatian Tian, Bingrui Shao, Yiheng Guo, Zewen Yin, and Jiaxin Yang.
In order to provide continued assistance to these children, we have organized an IGEM charity fundraising event to provide financial aid to children in mountainous areas. We appreciate the donors who participated in this charity fundraising activity.
In addition, in order to have a greater impact in the field of education, we have established the Hubei University Synthetic Biology Association and, based on this, we conducted the Hubei Synthetic Biology Open Day event on July 5, 2023. Furthermore, we have formed an education alliance and educational map with WHU-China, Jiangnan-China, and Tsinghua-TFL.

Entrepreneurial team.

Our entrepreneurial team is composed of Jiaqi Wang, Yongbo Chen, Bo Chen, and Ruijin Yin. They investigated the industrial scale, growth rate, competitive pattern, industry trend, industry policy and other related aspects of the industry, simulated innovative and feasible business models. Finally, they developed a business plan based on experts' insights and team analysis results to achieve commercialization of the project.

Our PI

Our Primary PI is Xia Wang. She provided us with advice and instructions throughout the entire project and guided us in acquainting ourselves with synthetic biology. Throughout the project, she assisted us in progressing further. Shihui Yang and Qiaoning He, as our Secondary PIs, offered us valuable suggestions and support.

Our advisors

Our advisors primarily consist of graduate students from the laboratory. Among them, Yi Wang and Yunhao Chen were iGEMers in 2018 and 2019, and they instructed us on how to advance in the iGEM competition. Wei Huang, Qiushi Ye, and Haoyu Zhang guided us in carrying out our experiments. Yalun Wu instructed us in building our model. Binan Geng helped us complete the team's brainstorming sessions. Ming Zhou, as our business advisor, guided us in the development of our business plan.
