Since this is the first time BASIS China has put together an iGEM team, we started recruiting members early, back in May. And we officially formed as a team in the summer of 2022 when we gathered to try and grasp the concepts of Synthetic Biology and iGEM, and take our first lab training session. Following the summer training session, we were often disrupted by COVID-19 regulations, and we couldn't make much progress in the wet lab. However, we did have regular online meetings and analyzed the projects of previous winning iGEM teams. Moving on to February 17, 2023, we started our wet lab work. With our Lab groups A, B, and C, we began constructing and transforming our plasmids with terpenes on a weekly basis. As we made progress with these terpenes, we faced various challenges, some technical and some just foolish (see below), which caused the progress bar to jump back and forth. With more experience under our belts, we made swift progress in our other summer gathering session. It wasn't until the end of September that we ultimately achieved 100% completion on two terpenes: beta-pinene and farnesene.

"Our Foolish Mistakes" ///

The journey of we high school students from inexperienced messes in the laboratory to individuals capable of performing experiments independently. Many mistakes were made, some humorous, some painful, but we certainly learned from them.
