Based on the pressure to advance to higher education, many Chinese high school students just sit in the classroom and study the contents of high school textbooks without having the time to pay attention to the serious problem of heavy metal pollution in agriculture that exists in real life. Based on this situation, we feel that it is quite necessary to explain the current situation and recognize the seriousness of its harm to students. Therefore, our team conducted this presentation at the Affiliated Middle School of Shandong Normal University.
First, we used data to explain to the students the seriousness of heavy metal pollution on agricultural land in China and introduced the more common problems of lead and cadmium pollution in detail. Subsequently, we explained the serious negative impacts of the related pollution on the environment, economy, and human body, so that the students could pay attention to the problem of heavy metal pollution. In addition, the pathways and sources of heavy metal pollution in agriculture were also introduced, and we hoped that students would do their part to reduce pollution after realizing the seriousness of the problem. At the end of the event, we introduced our team's solution to the problem of heavy metal pollution to the students, stimulating their interest in studying synthetic biology and promoting our iGEM program.
