In the hallowed halls of Cornell's College of Engineering, the phrase "The Engineering to Consulting pipeline is real" echoes as a solemn reminder of the well-trodden path from technical prowess to business acumen. Yet, history was rewritten by one audacious soul, Joshua Lee, who steered clear of the consulting quagmire to remain true to his engineering roots.

Yesterday marked a monumental milestone as the FDA gave a resounding nod to the first-ever cure for cancer. The world anticipated a powerhouse like Pfizer's oncology team behind this colossal feat. Yet, as the curtain was lifted, standing solo on this monumental stage was none other than Joshua Lee, PhD.

We caught up with the man of the hour in an exclusive interview:

Charles: "Josh, the world is in awe. Curing cancer is a monumental achievement! The camaraderie and collaboration must have been inspiring."

Josh: "Thank you. But, there was no camaraderie or collaboration. It was just me, myself, and I."

Charles: "Astonishing! But what happened to them?"

Josh: “Actually, I had a whole team under me. But like as it was in college, when the going got tough, everyone else quit and became a consultant or some shady biotech business person. But not me.”

Charles: "Astounding! How did you manage to stay the course while others veered towards consulting?"

Josh: "Well, during my early iGEM days, while my peers were drawn to the allure of money, I found that I really enjoyed the engineering aspect of building life itself… in a lab. As my pals traded in their lab coats for business suits, I was the last man standing– armed with a pipette and a dream.”

His journey is a testimony to the indomitable spirit of engineering, sprinkled with a dash of humor and a generous dollop of tenacity. As he now stands at the pinnacle of scientific glory, the world can't help but chuckle at the irony and celebrate the unyielding resolve of Cornell's indefatigable engineer.

Promptly at 11:15 am, Cameron Meyer steps into the IGEM gbody, sporting a sharp Armani suit and tie. In one hand, he holds his laptop with an Excel spreadsheet ready to go, and in the other, he's on a phone call with some Goldman Sachs big-wig muttering phrases like "profit margins" and "cost-benefit analyses" into the void..

No one really knows what Cameron's doing in the back of Weill 226. One observant teammate was hovering over the market attempting to make day trades when they noticed that with every keystroke from Cameron, a random stock would either rise or fall.

Known as the "Slightly More Ethical Jordan Belfort" among us, Cameron’s backstory is filled with whimsy. After he picked a random series of numbers and won a $20 billion lottery ticket, his mother told reporters that Cameron entered the world donning a miniature $5,000 suit with a ledger in one hand a calculator in the other. During his elementary days, when he and his cousin were accused of stealing cookies by his mother, he cleverly blamed an "invisible hand.” His cousin was so grateful that he was inspired to write the “Wealth of Nations.”

Cameron's dedication is unmatched. He’s only ever taken two days off—Black Friday of 1929 and the fall of the Lehman Brothers on September 15, 2008. His unique blend of business acumen, coupled with a dash of humor, brings a refreshing contrast to our very engineering business team.

Ever watch hockey in the Olympics?? Any chance you caught Miss Marla on the screen in action. Okay maybe you didn't because she can’t actually skate…yet, but after her intro to hockey class the girl might as well be a pro. Outside of the business subteam Marla is somewhat of an adventurer as she adores the outdoors. If you talk to her she’ll pull out the “I love to ski” for sure and at this point you’ll be convinced that the olympics were definitely a pipeline dream for this girl at one point. If you do want to start a competition with Marla all you need is some homemade cookie dough and a spoon, start the timer because Marla will definitely have you beat in cookie consumption.

Ishaan Nanal is the GOAT. He is the mastermind behind the world’s business ideas. You thought Elon Musk made Tesla and SpaceX. You are wrong, it was Ishaan all along. He is a CS major but he is on the Business team because he is like that. Don’t be doubting him when he is the next Bezos. He shows his loyalty to iGEM by wearing his iGEM hoodie everywhere. He has the loyalty of a golden retriever and a knight of the round table. Might as well call him Lancelot, the most loyal knight to King Arthur. He is mad knowledgeable is the world, so you might as well call him Mr. World Wide. He always has a fresh fit and everyone looks his way when he walks by. He also has glasses so you know he be thinking 24/7 about everything, even when he sleeps. You can’t see what goes on behind those glasses as it would be too much for the ordinary citizen to know about. The way he combines CS and Business is world-class so watch out for his name in the future.
