Thomas Alexander (he/him), Master Student in Biotech at BOKU Vienna, our iGEM Vienna BOKU 2023 team lead, who pitched the idea: De Novo Testosterone Synthesis in Yeast P. pastoris. Here, he would like to share with you his experience with BOKU iGEM team, how he came up with the idea, what impact this topic might have and what he likes to do in his free time.

Flora (she/her) is now doing her PhD at RWTH Aachen. She is an alumna of BOKU, where she studied and joined iGEM. She has a very profound background in food science and biotechnology. Flora is active in genetic engineering researches, metabolic engineeiring, dry lab (plasmid design) and wet lab. She is very passionate about iGEM. Her favourite flavour of ice cream is chocolate.

Meet Simon (he/him), Co-lead at iGEM BOKU Vienna 2023, senior undergrad student at BOKU Vienna, who is in charge of our wet lab section! He has a broad area of interests including organic synthesis, chemistry, synthetic biology, biotechnology and bioengineering. He likes to look at history to see how people thought the world worked and should work In his free time, he likes to read and his favourite fruit is watermelon.

Meet Justine (she/her)! Undergrad at university of Vienna. Our iGEM 2023 BOKU Vienna team member, who is active in wet lab. Justine is studying microbiology and genetics and her favourite fruits are apples and strawberries.

Meet Paola (she/her), Master student at BOKU Vienna, our iGEM BOKU team member, who is doing her masters in biotechnology at BOKU Vienna. She is excited about human practice and literature review/research in biotechnology and pharmaceutical production. She likes reading, nature, rollerblading and her favourite fruit is watermelon.

Meet Patrick (he/him), PhD student at university of Vienna, a chemist and cultural and social anthropologist. As a social anthropologist, he is interested in researching artificial intelligence and it’s impact on the society. He’s is interested at iGEM in Modeling and Fundraising. He likes to spend time with his kids, and he likes music, Yoga and nature.

Meet Carlo (he/him), who is doing a master’s at the Institute of Chemistry at University of Vienna. Carlo is interested in systems biology and strain modelling. He is active at iGEM for fundraising and modelling. He loves printmaking, and his favourite fruit is mango, good mango.

Meet Sara, senior undergrad at BOKU Vienna, her job at iGEM is Wiki development, our voice actress and researcher.

Meet Bin (he/they), Co-lead at iGEM BOKU Vienna 2023, senior undergrad at University of Vienna. Bin is active in Human Practice, team collaboration, Dry Lab (plasmid design, primer design), literature review (metabolic engineering) and social media. Bin is interested in scientific writing, biochemistry, and cell biology. In his/their free time, Bin likes to spend time cycling in nature. Bin loves house plants and his/their favourite fruit is coffee.

Hans Marx is our primary PI. He is 47 and works as a researcher at BOKU Vienna’s Institute for Micro Biology and microbial Biotechnology in the fields of Biotechnology and Synthetic Biology. In his free time, he enjoys water, as in sailing, swimming, and good food, especially pasta

Martin Altvater is our secondary PI. He is 41 years old and works a researcher at BOKU Vienna’s Institute for Microbiology and microbial Biotechnology in the fields of Biotechnology and Synthetic Biology. In his free time, he likes to make music, play fistball and going to old Viennese bars. His favourite food is Spätzle.
