Jingzhe Li

I’m Jingzhe Li from Hangzhou number four high school Jiangdong .As a high school student I decided to major in biology in university . the main reason is I want to seek the mystery of genes which help mankind out of illness. Talking back to myself, in my free time I usually to read books about nature and creatures to satisfy my curiosity. Besides, I’m also interested in some sport program such as badminton and volleyball , that keeps my mind clearer and more logical. That’s all about me self-introduction .As a member of the project of IGEM, I do some science and learn a lot ,this helps me a lot. I hope with the whole group’s endeavor this expectation could be successfully achieved.

Landi Fu

My Chinese name is Fu Landi, and my English name is Frendi. I am currently studying A-level courses in Wuhan Britain -Chinese School. My chosen courses are mathematics, Chemistry and Biology. I participated in iGEM because I found that I did not participate in any biochemical competition in the early stage, but this competition has high gold content and interesting process. Besides, this competition is related to synthetic biology. I hope I can have a more updated and comprehensive understanding of biology from this competition. At the same time, this competition also includes many other disciplines. I also hope to master more new knowledge and abilities through the communication and learning during this period. I have learned ballet for 11 years and piano for 7 years. I have participated in many assessments and performances, from which I have learned a lot. For example, I need to persevere in everything I do, because I can do three minutes on stage and ten years off stage. Every time I practice a new dance or a new piano piece, it is a new challenge for me. I have gained more experience in many performances selection and grade examination. Sometimes I can solve some emergencies in time, which also brings a lot of help to my daily study and life. In school, teachers of some subjects would require several people to make a presentation together. In general, I played the role of leader in the team. I would communicate with each group member about some ideas, gather them together to discuss how to complete the presentation, and then I would take the initiative to undertake the relatively complicated part. Also I do experiments once or twice a week in school , so I look forward to going to the lab during the summer vacation. Finally, it is my great honor to participate in this scientific research competition with you. I am looking forward to discussing and learning new things with you in the future. I hope we can all have new insights from the competition and work together to achieve our goals.

Yicheng Shen

I'm Yicheng Shen, a grade 11 student from Shanghai Pinghe school. At school, I personally favor Science subjects like physics, chemistry and biology and achieved decent grades in the disciplines that interests me. I have also been trying to probe into the field of comparably advanced chemistry. However, the problem that kept confusing me throughout the past year had been that all that I’ve been doing is reading books and understanding the words written on the paper. As a person interested in science, IGEM gave me a perfect chance of entering the lab and really do some experiment practice myself. Synesthetic biology and IGEM are two completely new terms for me, but during the process of either theoretical knowledge learning or experiment operations, I managed to develop a preliminary understanding of this subject and obtained an opportunity to use my knowledge learnt in a practical scenario. I personally understand synesthetic biology as a subject aiming to allow DNA fragments of different species to get joint, and letting it be expressed in protein to form a kind of biological material or new species possessing ideal properties able to be utilized by human. Throughout this project experiment, I experienced the process of protein expression, result verification using electrophoresis, and various similar experiment operations, and solidified my understanding of the theories behind it through asking and thinking. Apart from the work in the lab, I also managed to experience interviews with experts and the process of analyzing and taking their advice. Personally speaking, I think I've already gained a lot from this project.

My goals are to make considerable contribution in the team and to learn from my peers, I also wish our project can one day make global environment better.

Silvia

Hi everyone! I’m Silvia, your new partner in the IGEM program. Since this is the first time meeting you all, I would like to tell you about me. So, I’m currently in Grade 10 at a private girls’ school in Toronto called Havergal College. I came to Canada in 2021 and haven’t been back since then so I can't wait to go back this summer! Now back to me, a major part of my personality is being a rower on a team owned by Rowing Canda. Rowers all love talking about our sports. Rowing is not a very popular sport in China, but it is the most demanding Olympic sport, according to many in the international sports community. It requires superb power as well as superb mental strength to push myself far beyond my limits. I love rowing and I spent all my free time training. Getting up at 4 a.m six days a week during race season built my self-regulation. I would get home very early after school and finish all my tasks quickly to go to bed at 8:30. I adapted to this sleep schedule and actually became considerably more organized and productive since I joined the team. Team work is key in rowing, therefore, I’m confident to say that I’m a pro at team working for sure. Rowing taught me to be humble, efficient, persistent, and open to criticism. Another essential part of me is traditional Chinese Opera. I started learning in Grade 6. Dancing and singing at the same time was a lot of fun and though I quitted last year, I would definitely go back to it when I can. All the tears and laughters at training and competitions built me to be a strong and competitive individual.

Jiahan Wen

I am Wen Jiahan from Hangzhou No. 4 Middle School. My English name is Andy. I don't have many hobbies at ordinary times. I only paint and play the piano. It was not long ago that I contacted IGEM and considered biology as the second direction. At present, I am very interested in the work of both dry and wet teams. I want to do mathematical modeling, website production and other computer related work in the dry team, and I think it is also great to do experiments in the laboratory in the wet team. I hope to get along well with everyone in the team and create a creative and meaningful project that can bring corresponding value to society.

Haoze (Austin) Wang

My name is Wang Haoze and my English name is Austin. I’m study at G2 in Shanghai ULINK college. I’m especially good at science and technology subjects, particularly physics and biology. I hope to study biology in university, and I have participated in bbo competition before. For why I love biology is because there are so many things in biology that attract me to think and explore, Human biology can help us understand human beings better and I wanted to take this opportunity to study it. I also know that igem is a very valuable competition, so I will cooperate with you guys in the next few months and try my best to do well in the ranking. And for me, like playing basketball and badminton. I achieved a qualification of national level 2 athlete in 400meter race. In my free time, I will also play the piano.

Anyuan (Ann) Zhong

I am Ann form Beijing 101 Middle School international department. As a tenth grader, I’ve already decided to major in biology in university. The main reason is that in this subject, no matter how deep you have reached, you will still feel like a beginner, which will evoke you to continue exploring within the field. Talking back to myself, beside academic life, I devote most of my time into art. Drawing and fashion designing to be specific. What I mean by drawing is not limited to a certain kind or form. Actually, I almost do all kinds of drawing. For instance, watercolor, oil painting, clip art, comic, they are all my type. As for fashion designing, recently I tried to make a connection between it and nature biology. I use some characteristics of certain endanger animals to design a clothing. By doing so I attempt to arouse the public awareness to pay attention and even try to protect those endanger species. Since I tend to keep indoor, I don’t actually high on any sports. But I still somehow enjoy swimming and playing badminton and I also do some routine exercise in order to keep in shape. Besides, I’m also fond of chess and musical games. That’s all about me as an individual. As a participant of IGEM competition, and as a member of a future group, I sincerely want to take the leader’s role to cultivate my leadership. What’s more, I regard IGEM not merely as a competition about synthetic biology, but an opportunity to advance some aspect of current society. I hope with the whole group’s endeavor this expectation could be successfully achieved.
