In our modern, highly competitive society, stress has become a serious psychological issue, wearing down our physical and mental health (especially among adolescents).

Aromatherapy, treatment through the use of fragrances, has the upper hand compared with traditional stress-relief methods - it being not only effective, but also accessibile and non-intrusive.

However, the current production methods of fragrances, chemical synthesis and natural extraction, can be harmful to both the environment and humanity.

Perhaps a solution can be found with synthetic biology...?

CyanoScent strives to use synthetic biology to alleviate stress among students and a broader audience, while providing an alternate, more eco-friendly path to fragrance production.

We accomplish this by transferring genes found in natural scent-producing species into cyanobacteria, creating a cellular factory that uses essentially only carbon dioxide to produce those same fragrances.
